We lost another original and great one when Davey Rogers checked out. He grew up in Boston and dove headfirst into Boston HC and skating (that’s him skating in a Gang Green video), then moved to Oregon to go to school and got into the Portland/Eugene/Corvallis skate scenes, localizing the Cage Ramp, then Avery Park and then Burnside, skating for Skull Skates. In the early 1990s he moved to Seattle to finish school and got a BA at Seattle University. He was a key part of the early Seattle DIY thing, turning pro for Beer City and taking road trips with the crew—most epically one in the Cauldron 1.0 with Hubbard, Swim, Smiley and me. He moved back East after that, living in NYC and settling in Newport, RI—a fixture of the 5.9 crew at Attleborough (shooting hoops before the sesh) and elsewhere. Always funny, always punk, I remember Davey getting booted from so many shows in Seattle for trying to slam dance to bands that weren’t playing that kind of music. He was a total ripper and will be sorely missed by friends all over the USA, but especially by his kids, Zoe and Owen, and his ex Leah. –Wez Lundry
